One time a guy interrupted Jesus while he was teaching some folks. He was greatly upset. Apparently, his older brother had some property of his and he was planning on sharing. You can imagine this ticked the man off. So he asked Jesus for some advice. Actually, he told Jesus to tell his brother to share. Sort of like when the younger brother complains to mom because the older sister won't share the candy. You can read the story for yourself in Luke 12:13-15 Jesus wasn't much help. Instead of giving the guy a hand, Jesus called him out. He told him and everyone listening to watch out for being greedy. Some advice that was??? Would you spot greed if you saw it? *Sure it shows up when someone steals something large and it makes the headlines. But what about when....
All are more subtle forms of greed to which Jesus warns us against Jesus said "Beware of the many faces of greed for in the end a person's life, or worth, is not found in the things they own or how much they make or the size of their 401k" Instead let us be rich towards God! Join me Sunday as we explore how to build our 401k in Heaven! Pastor Mike What keeps you awake at night? What are the things that go through your mind as you're trying to settle down. If you got nothing... REJOICE for you are in the minority. I read an article this week that said we spend 65 BILLION annually on trying to get a better nights sleep. From beds & pillows to medications. If you're like me, my worries tend to come out at night, usually 'cuz that's all i can think about. I don't have the distractions from the day. Jesus knew that our worries and fears are a big things in life. He spoke about this a lot. In one of his first sermons he identified the things that tend to occupy our thinking and gave us a remedy for it. See if any of these resonate with you?
Jesus answered these questions and more in his sermon on the mount in Matthew 6:19-34. This Sunday Shawn is going unpack how we can live a more worry free life, but for right now let me give ya just a taste of Jesus said to us. He said "Don't worry" 1) because worry is useless. Without the willingness to take corrective action simply stewing on something gets us nowhere. 2) Jesus reminds that our Father in Heaven knows and His character can be Trusted. Jesus said our Father in Heaven knows that we have need and you are of much value to Him. His reputation is at stake. Let us therefore Seek the Fathers' business and He will take care of our business. We can rest knowing the Father will take care of what concerns us. Will you trust the Father with the things that trouble you? See you on Sunday at 9:33am. Pastor Mike PS - Huge Shout out to Ryan & Daniel for the work they have done bringing new life and lights to the stage. THANK YOU to Tim for the awesome new mural in the Middle School Room.
