Do you people to listen to you?

In 1936-37 Dale Carnegie wrote How to Win Friends & Influence People. Today over 30 million copies have been printed, not to mention the number of digital downloads. But when Dale first published the book, only 5000 were first published.

The principles he gave are just as true today as they were 100 years ago:

• Be genuinely interested in other people. Ask them questions rather than talk about your self * Smile more; Make eye contact when speaking with others
• Remember & use the persons name when talking with them * Listen well
• Show respect towards others, even if you might disagree

Before his Dale wrote his book, Paul had some ideas on how to get people to listen to us. In this series of Win the Day, if we want to win with people; Paul wrote Colossians 4:2-6. Take note how you can have people listen to you:

• Pray for them - Pray that the Lord would bless them. Pray that God would be real to them. Pray that God would give you favor with them. Pray that you would see them the way He sees them.
• Be Grateful for what is good in your life. Being thankful rather than a continually complaining
• Guard your attitude towards others - Paul wrote that as Christians we would be wise in the way we act. If actions speak louder than words, what are our we saying by our attitudes? By our work ethic? By how we respond when things don't go our way?
• Be Careful about the words you speak - We are to be gracious with our speech? May our words be seasoned with salt, which is another way of saying may our words be interesting... make people curious about who we are. May our words build people up instead of tearing them down!
