The same things that make people like you are equally true if you're on a winning team. It might be a work team or your sports team or your neighborhood homeowners group. Things like compassion, which is basically caring about other people. Being respectful towards others. Caring how people are doing and letting them know it. Kindness is simply doing good for others. It might be helping someone out who is ill? Watching your friends child so they can have a date night? Taking a meal over. Giving a compliment. Listening to someone as they process their grief?? Humility is the opposite of arrogance and self promotion. It's recognizing that all you have is from God's graciousness towards you. Sure you & I work and think we "earn" things, more money, titles or a promotion of "trophy" of some sort... but the reality is you are where you are because someone else has helped you along the way. Arrogant, prideful people tend to forget this. Gentleness is being strong yet keeping that strength under control. It was said of Jesus that he was gentle towards all those looking for mercy. The one strong enough to command the storms and winds welcomed children into his arms. He was welcomed to parties, yet spoke the truth about the effects of greed & evil. Patience means having a long fuse, towards people. Yes in our circumstances, but patience that Paul speaks about has to do with people. Acting with kindness instead of being rude. Patient with the wait staff even when they mess up your food order. People who understand God is patient with them, know how to extend grace to others. Any team, or work group or classroom or PTO or church family that can put these 5 qualities into practice, will see them Win the Day. Come sit with Patti and I on Sunday! Let's create a Winning Culture. Together. Let's share some pulled pork. This Sunday! - Pastor Mike
