I'm not sure if you're a friend of the Super Hero's movies or not? The Avengers movie End Game apparently made a whopping $2,788,912,285 world wide, and as I checked it is the 2nd highest grossed movie of all time. I'm not sure what it is that makes the super hero's so attractive to us?? Solomon talks about a Super Power everyone has. In Proverbs 18:21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Our super power is found in the words we use. I read the sad story this week of a young lady who took their life. Her journal detailed the verbal abuse she took from her peers which resulted in her being irreparably damaged through the cruel words of others. Solomon tells speaks truth when he says, your words or lack of them have the capability to do great good or severe harm. Here's one way you can bring value to your marriage or your relationships with those you care about. LISTEN UP. That's right... be a better listener. Stay Quiet and Listen, really seek to hear and understand what people are trying to say. You listen when you don't say everything you're thinking. You listen better when you don't say everything you know. You're a great listener by not repeating everything you hear (Pro. (16:28). Listen, Solomon says, and you will gain what you most desire (Pro. (12:15). We Love Better when we Listen Better. Join me this Sunday as we uncover the super power we all possess, the ability to use words and ears to be an encouragement to those around us! See Ya Sunday Friend! 338... That's the average number of friends a typical facebook user has. That seems like a lot. Other data suggests the "real" number of friends we have varies from between 3 to 8. How about you? How many friends would you say you have? People you feel free to call up when you have a difficulty? People you would invite to do something with you on the spur of the moment? Solomon wrote a lot about friends, about people both good and bad in the book of Proverbs. On Sunday we're going to look answer the question, Being the Friend a Friend would like to have. Yep I'm borrowing it from the line in Tim McGraws song Live Like You Were Dying. While on the topic here's a couple things you aren't looking for in a friend: The person who lacks common sense Proverbs 27:14 Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, will be counted as cursing. That guy or gal who is always complaining and never happy; consistently has a negative attitude Solomon says avoid that person at all costs. The one who Walks with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. 1 Cor. 15:33 reminds us that hanging with the wrong people will destroy who you are as a person. Our friends, or lack thereof, says a lot about who we are and who we will become. I hope you're able to join us either in person or on our facebook live feed beginning at 9:33am. See Ya Sunday Friend Pastor Mike PS- It's generally true that if you ask a friend to join you for worship they'll be happy to be with you. Try it this week! |
